Questions for Reflection:

  • What does it mean to you to see all people, regardless of any characteristic, as being your very own sister or brother?

  • How can the growth of social peace be helped or hurt by how we view other individuals and groups in society?

  • What group of people might you not understand well? Where does that lack of understanding come from? How could you deepen your understanding? Think about relationships, cultural and religious exchanges, and more.

  • Have you ever been a part of a public demonstration, such as a rally, protest, or walk-out? If so, what motivated you to take part? If not, why haven’t you feel drawn to do this?

  • If you had to organize and lead a public demonstration today, what marginalized group or social injustice would you want to highlight? What realities would you want to highlight and amplify by your action?

  • Viatorians strive to stand up for and walk with people who society tries to account of little importance. How does public demonstration live out this integral call?

  • What do you remember about your first experiences of direct service? What did you first learn or realize by spending time in service?

  • In your experience serving, where have you served? Who were the clients or community in need? What did they show you or teach you, even if they’re realizations you only have looking back?

  • Have you ever carefully considered how people on the edges – those experiencing homelessness, hunger, material poverty, and others – are just as much your sisters and brothers as your own family members? How does this attitude and outlook affect your consideration of these people?
